Scholarship Opportunity for 2019/2020 High School Senior

Chamber offers area High School Seniors scholarship opportunity

The Rockford Chamber of Commerce (RCC) wants to promote education in the local area. Each year the chamber offers area students the opportunity to vie for a scholarship to further their education, this year the RCC will award 4 – $1,500.00 scholarships.  The scholarship awards may be used for public, private or community colleges, universities and specialized schools or trades programs directly following the student’s graduation from high school.

To apply for the scholarship a student must do the following:

  • Complete the RCC Scholarship Application Form (found below)
  • A letter of reference from a high school administrator, coach, teacher, instructor, or Rockford Chamber of Commerce member. This is limited to a one page, typed double-spaced and must be signed by the referring individual.A response to the essay theme:

Academic Question:  We live in a “post truth” world where opinions and perceptions matter more than facts.  Many people seem more likely to resort to name calling rather than finding common ground on differing viewpoints.  As a future leader, how will you persuade others and foster cooperation with people who do not agree with you?

Trades Question:  Young adults today are encouraged to attend college and pursue professions instead of trade careers. This has affected the growth and strength of the American economy.  What is the importance of having more students utilizing their talents and skills as trained tradespeople, and what is a viable solution to reaching more students in your community to educate them on their options as they select a career path?
