Rockford to celebrate Family Fun Weekend
The Rockford Chamber of Commerce invites you to harvest some family fun. The first weekend – Heritage Weekend is this upcoming weekend, and the second installment of Harvest Fest, Family Fun Weekend, is Oct. 5 & 6. The Family Fun weekend will feature hayrides, scarecrow making, children’s activities, and plenty of fall fun for the younger set.
The Corner Bar is sponsoring plenty of activity down in Garden Club Park. This includes a bounce house, a balloon artist, a petting zoo, children’s games and a food tent. The fun begins at noon on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Special events this weekend will be sure to remind families that fall is here – and Halloween is just around the corner. The ever-popular costume contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Rotary Pavilion. After gathering together, the group will parade around downtown trick-or-treating and winners will be selected for a number of fun categories, such as scariest, funniest and grand prize.
Krause Memorial Library is featuring their highly popular Used Book Sale on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., with the final hour highlighted by the Buck-a-Bag sale. Also on Saturday will be a puppet show on Garden Club Park Stage at 11 a.m.,
WAR Chest International will be offering free photos with storybook characters at their store from 1-4 p.m. And new kid on the block, Kayla Rae Cellars, will be offering free samples of their special rootbeer – with more for sale. They are also opening their doors so visitors can take a peak at their new store, which will be opening soon.
Reel Air Cinema is featuring a FREE outdoor movie in Garden Club Park at dusk on Saturday. The movie is the highly entertaining “Epic,” and will delight all members of the family.
The weekend also features the famous Animals on the Go Petting Zoo, and an exciting addition to the fall schedule, pony rides. These two special activities will be in Garden Club Park both Saturday and Sunday.
The winners of the Squire Coloring Contest will be announced at the Rotary Pavilion, with prizes going to the winners in three age groups at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, before the costume contest.
Sunday will feature the popular Kid’s Pedal Tractor Pull, with registration at 1 p.m. at the Rotary Pavilion, and the contest starting at 1:30. Another popular Sunday event is the Old Fashioned Games, which are slated from 1–4 p.m. They will feature a pumpkin roll, candy find and pumpkin coloring.
Saturday’s live entertainment will be Youz Guyz, which will take the stage at the Rotary Pavilion from 4-6 p.m. Sunday will also feature live entertainment, with the Dusty Chaps Trio taking the stage at Garden Club Park from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Families can enjoy hayrides by Dufort Farms and Make-It and Take-It Scarecrow Building during the final weekend of Harvest Festival.
