The Rockford Chamber of Commerce invites you to harvest some family fun. The first installment of Harvest Fest, Heritage Weekend, will feature hayrides, scarecrow making, children’s activities, a craft fair, chili cook off, car show, a live and silent auction at the Rockford Area Museum, an entertainment tent and many other fall activities. The event takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27-29 and features a block-buster weekend of activities – both old and new!
Special events this weekend will tickle your appetite, delight your eyes, and help you celebrate a beautiful Autumn. Friday is kicked off with the Rotary Barbecue Pork Dinner, located in the Rotary Pavilion.
Saturday features the popular Chili Cook Off, which offers the best in homemade chili. The stoves are lit at 8 a.m. with judging at noon and $1 samples sold beginning at 1 p.m. The event will take place in the entertainment tent, located in the Promenade Parking Lot – near Reds on the River. Rockford Brewing Company will be supplying the beverages and the entertainment in the tent, with three live bands beginning at 2 p.m. The tent will be open until 11 p.m. and will be open Saturday only.
The Annual Classic Car Show is always a crowd-pleaser and features incredible cars dating from Model T’s to street rods to elegant classics. The show always gets visiting families and friends to share histories with each other – noting cars they grew up with or see their dream car. Ask our firefighter friends who are judging this contest what is their favorite “ride”. The car show takes place in the Old Northland Parking Lot, with cars spilling into the City Hall Parking Lot.
Rockford Ace Hardware is featuring a Tractor Show in its parking lot, along with other fall activities. The show begins at 9 a.m., with a tractor parade through downtown Rockford at 1 p.m. The route will be down Main St., west on Courtland St., south on Squires St., east on Bridge St., south on Main, east on Maple, and north on Monroe, so it can pass by the new location of the Rockford Historical Museum to honor the museum’s opening.
The Rockford Area Historical Museum will be hosting a live and silent auction Saturday. The silent auction will be from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., with the live auction taking place from 1-2 p.m. The auction will take place at City Hall, 7 S. Monroe St.
Two standard fall favorites – the scarecrow building and the hay rides will both be back for another season! Make It and Take It Scarecrow Building is slated for three weekends – Sept. 28 & 29, Oct. 5 & 6, and Oct. 12 & 13. This family-fun event will be in the Dam Overlook parking lot and in front of the old location of the historical museum. Hours are Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The hayrides, given by Dufort Hay Rides, will load at Reading Books and will be from 1-5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday the last weekend of Sept. and the first weekend in Oct.
Herman’s Boy will be grilling and offering free grilled food samples from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Herman’s Boy is located at 220 Northland Dr.
The Visiting Nurses will be administering flu shots in the Welcome Center from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, no appointment necessary. This is a quick, easy way to protect yourself from this season’s flu season.
